The European Erasmus+ Join-Rise Project, coordinated by the University of Burgos from the
Centre for Cooperation and Solidarity Action, has participated in the 18th Solidarity Week of
the UBU with three training activities aimed at raising awareness among students about the
Sustainable Development Goals and the importance of taking them as a basis for the
development of their professional future.
The first activity was aimed at students of the Degree in Video Game Design within the subject
“The Video Game Industry” taught by Professor Javier Saiz Barrio; the second at students of
the subject “Business Management” of the Master in Industrial Engineering, taught by
Professor Juan José Lavios, and finally in the Degree in Technical Architecture and Double
Degree in Civil Engineering and Technical Architecture the recipients were the students of the
subject “Budgets I”, taught by Professor Lourdes Alameda Cuenca-Romero.
These training actions are part of the European Erasmus+ Join Rise Project coordinated by the
University of Burgos and of which the Technical University of Delft in the Netherlands, Trinity
College Dublin, the company Bjäland Technologies and the University of Pécs in Hungary are
partners.
The Join-Rise project aims to design an innovative blended learning environment on the SDGs
(Sustainable Development Goals) that has two distinct functions, one aimed specifically at
students and the other at teachers, as key actors in education for sustainable development.
Talk at the Bachelor’s Degree in Video Game Design:
- Trainers: Luana Presti and Sara Gutiérrez, from the Centre for Cooperation and Solidarity Action and Cristina López, from the company Bjäland Technologies.
Through games and various participatory dynamics, the aim was to transmit knowledge to the
60 students about what the SDGs are, the historical and conceptual basis on which they are
structured, their scope and above all how they can be agents of change and how they can
implement them in their daily personal and academic lives as well as in their professional
future.
Talk at the Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering
- Trainer: Ángel Ballesteros, from the Mathematical Physics Group of the University of Burgos and member of the research team of the Join Rise Project of the UBU.
The aim of the training was to raise awareness of the role of higher education and scientific
and technical research in achieving sustainable and equitable human development.
Lecture in the Degree in Technical Architecture and Double Degree in Civil Engineering and
Technical Architecture
- Trainer: Alejandra García, architect and president of the NGO Team4Ganha.
In her lecture “Architecture as a social tool”, she developed the most important aspects to take
into account in the profession from the point of view of international cooperation.
The SDGs in STEM degrees such as the Bachelor’s Degree in Video Game Design, the Master’s
Degree in Industrial Engineering or the Bachelor’s Degrees in Technical Architecture and Civil
Engineering, have great potential for application at all levels of development, which is why it
was considered key to carry out this training during Solidarity Week.
